This is our entry for the CoVent-19 challenge. Our Mechanical ventilator design is cost-effective and will be highly beneficial to people affected by the Corona virus. It consists of both mechanical and electrical components. The mechanical component includes a specially designed self-inflating bag that improves breathing in a gradual manner, connected to a stepper motor with a simple single-slider crank mechanism. The volume of this self-inflating bag is 500 ml, which is equivalent to the tidal volume of lungs. The electrical component consists of a micro-controller - an Arduino board - that controls the compression and expansion of the self-inflating bag. Additionally, it has a heart pulse sensor and muscle sensor that monitor heartbeat and breathing rate on an LCD display. If there are any issues with heart rate or breathing, the buzzer will turn on along with red LED indication, allowing doctors to check the patient. The total amount required to make this ventilator is 10,000/- INR (approximately $130).
