This is our second entry for the Covid-19 challenge. Our mechanical ventilator design is simple, yet effective and inexpensive. It will be a valuable resource for people infected with Corona virus. The device consists of three main components: 1.Frame, 2.Mechanical part, and 3.Electrical part. The frame is made from compact PVC-plastic, which is easy to handle. The mechanical part features a single slider crank mechanism that improves breathing in a gradual manner and is connected to a stepper motor. A specially designed self-inflating bag made of elastic material is included, with two outlets: one for supplying air and the other for sucking air. Both have one-way valves. The volume of the self-inflating bag is 750cc. The electrical part consists of an Arduino UNO R3 micro-controller that controls the compression and expansion of the self-inflating bag. It also includes a heart beat sensor and muscle sensor to monitor heart rate and breathing rate on an LCD display. A potentiometer is connected to the controller, allowing for control over the speed of the stepper motor. If unusual heart rates or breathing rates are detected, the buzzer and red LED will trigger, alerting doctors to check the patient. The device operates in four modes: 1.Assist control mode, 2.Pressure control mode, 3.Positive end expiratory pressure mode, and 4.Pressure support mode. Team SAPPHIRE has made this possible, consisting of members Vishwa DDharanidharan M, Manojkumar LL, and Srinivas E. Together, we can defeat Corona.
