Mechanical Soldering Pen

Mechanical Soldering Pen

thingiverse

This mod turns a .9mm mechanical pencil into a .8mm 60/40 solder holder. It replaces tedious spool work and accommodates large fingers with room for error, eliminating a major source of frustration. Print settings: 10% infill at 0.3mm thickness. Design Note: The 10-inch long bolt, leftover from constructing the 3D printer, serves as the spool holder in this project. An identical unit is also integrated into the print for those seeking alternatives. Tipping point for solderers seeking better control lies in using mechanical pencils devoid of holders; shorten lengths of solder to the length of standard lead pencil diameter, then get ready for precise applications.
