Mechanical Scoop
thingiverse
This is a DIY Mechanical Scoop. Simply power it up with an Arduino and Servo Motor, print it out, and assemble the pieces. By Gravity's pull, the scoop opens up, while the Servo Motor shuts it tight without any spring needed to keep it open. It's designed to carry sugar, sand, or other granulated items - I haven't tested water yet but think it won't work too well. I considered adding a pulley system for hanging, but LEGO (R) pulleys worked out better when printing didn't pan out. Post-Printing Instructions To assemble the mechanism: Find some nails lying around the house and use them. Upper holes can be secured with tiny glass nails while lower ones can fit whatever small items you have on hand. If a piece doesn't fit due to imprecision from your printer, sandpaper or an abrasive file can smooth things out. String is all you need to connect the mechanism to the Servo Motor.
