Mechanical Iris
thingiverse
This design from Instructables caught my eye and inspired me to create a 3D printable version. Although it requires some effort, the results are worth it! I reworked the drawings to suit 3D printing and added a top cover for component stability. The size is 4" in diameter with each component thickness at 0.075". After printing, drill holes to perfection. If you have access to a lathe like me, create pins from aluminum; otherwise, use materials of your choice. Apply glue sparingly to secure the pins but avoid running it down the pins. Ensure all surfaces are smooth for easy component movement. You may need to sand flaps to close the iris completely. Enjoy your new creation, inspired by NTT's mechanical iris v20 on Instructables!
