Human: V2 : Small Improvements Add Up Significantly Finally Finished Modeling This Project, and It Was Time Well Spent - A Lot More to Like Than Before To Make Printing a Breeze for Everyone Else, I Updated Three Key Parts and Added One Crucial New Part That Enables the Iris. If You've Already Printed the Leafs, You Can Still Get Plenty of Use Out of Them with the Upgraded Pieces. This Should Result in an Even More Impressive 3D-Printed Tabletop Display to Show Off Your Printer's Capabilities. ORIGINAL POST V1 I Stumbled Upon a Cool DIY Paper Mechanical Iris Project Online and Thought It Was Amazing. After Digging Deep, I Couldn't Find This Particular Type of Iris on Thingiverse, So I Went Ahead and Researched Other Designs - One That Seemed Potentially Printable Was Found on Instructables. The Most Challenging Aspect Was Getting the Leafs Thin Enough for Smooth Operation and Equipping Them with a Pin on Both Sides. It Took a Few Trial Runs to Get the Design Working Fairly Well, Unfortunately, I Hit a Dead End - the Iris Won't Close All the Way. My Next Move Is to Investigate Leaf Designs That Allow for Even Thinner Material or Perhaps Use Fewer Leaves. I Was After a 3D Printing Proof of Concept at First, But I'll Revisit This Project in the Future When Time Allows and Possibly Even Refine It into Some Steampunk Goggles or Camera Lens Caps with Sliding Irises. I Drawn Inspiration from Instructables Article: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-12-leaves-Mechanical-Irirs/ Check Out SketchPunk Labs and Consider Supporting the Effort on Patreon, Amazon Shop Instructions for Use First, Print Eleven Leafs and Pins, Then Glue a Pin to Each Leaf, Positioning One Side Facing Inward. With This Preparation, Lay Out the Leaves on the Base and Hold Them in Place with Clampers Until the Project is Complete.
