When my little sister required a new mitral valve to replace her old one, I felt helpless. To lift her spirits, I asked if she needed anything 3D printed in plastic. She requested a heart-shaped pendant with a functioning valve that opens and closes. I advised her that creating a functional heart valve would be futile, so we settled on the pendant. Inspired by 507 Mechanical Movements at http://507movements.com , I decided to craft something mechanical. This is what I came up with. As my sister is spiritual and appreciates the Tao Te Ching, I incorporated elements of yin and yang into this design. The mitral valve, being a bivalve, made it easy to work with these concepts. The project started around Valentine's Day, which added an extra layer of meaning. Find your own significance in this pendant as you turn the dial continuously clockwise or counterclockwise, causing the yin and yang doors to swing open and close. Gaze into its mysterious inner workings and ponder the mysteries of the universe. This design is easy to print, simple to assemble, and looks amazing.
