Mechanical Character
myminifactory
This mechanical figure is an object that's almost entirely 3D printed, super easy to assemble and perfect for a mini project. Turning the main gear rotates the other gears and in turn moves the human in a way that makes it look like he's pushing forward. It uses two large gears and three smaller ones to drive the body. This model is designed to use minimal support material, with only a few parts requiring some extra care when removing them from the print bed. The model consists of 33 printed parts and one store-bought part. The inspiration for this structure's shape came from Fernand Léger, a French painter known for his bold and colorful style. His painting "The Builders" shows how humans are shaping the world through industry and technology. As 3D printing becomes more accessible and starts to shape our world in new and exciting ways, I saw Léger's art as the perfect inspiration for this project.
