Mechanical chain wear indicator
grabcad
This system employs a real-time monitoring mechanism using only mechanical components, mainly featuring solid-state mechanics at a cost of less than $10. The primary component is a spring made from special steel, providing flexibility and resilience. The switching element comprises a high-voltage reed switch, which is both affordable ($1) and offers 'dry contact' advantages due to its mechanical properties. This switch connects directly to the internal hoist electric circuit along with a lamp for indication and a resistor if needed. Attached are two CAD models: one for production and another for testing. The production model includes a 1mm air gap between the spring and chain for wear protection; however, a gapless variant may offer further advancements.
