Mechanical Aperture
thingiverse
I completely reworked sketchpunk's mechanical iris with a focus on being easier to print and assemble, as well as ultimately serving as an actual large camera iris. I didn't use any of his files but did utilize approximately the same dimensions. It now closes up more snugly. Its appearance has shifted away from steampunk, but the aperture blades produce intriguing patterns. You can paint different halves of the smooth side for striking duotone geometry effects. This design works seamlessly with countersunk M4 screws or countersunk 8-32 hardware. If you choose to remix it and resize it, be cautious when scaling the Z dimension. The mechanics are carefully arranged and simple rounding errors on resizing could lead to difficulties.
