Christopher Polhem, a renowned inventor born in 1661, pioneered the development of the mechanical alphabet just before the dawn of 1700. His ingenious wooden models vividly showcased the core principles of physics and mechanics, designed to serve as an interactive educational tool at the Laboratorium mechanicum, which he founded in 1697. Following his passing, the collection persisted as a powerful didactic instrument, eventually becoming an integral part of the Swedish Royal Model Chamber. In 1925, the impressive collection of 31 meticulously crafted models was transferred to the newly established National Museum of Science and Technology.
