Christopher Polhem created a mechanical alphabet around 1700, paving the way for innovative educational tools in physics and mechanics. He crafted wooden models that showcased fundamental principles, designed to engage students at Laboratorium mechanicum, established in 1697. After his passing, the collection remained a didactic instrument and became part of the Swedish Royal Model Chamber's vast archive. In 1925, the National Museum of Science and Technology acquired the collection of 31 meticulously crafted models for future generations.
