This mechanism is used to measure the length of formed tubes. The tubes have a spherical end that is ground. They are fed into a centerless grinder . The grinding wheel has a form dressed on it. The parts are loaded into the hopper, they drop one at a time onto a cylindrical drum with a V ground into it. They are then measured for length. The drum turns 90 deg, and the parts drop down a chute and are pushed into the grinder. The length measurement is transferred to the control on the grinder and a pusher on the grinder feeds the part into the form on the wheel based on the length measurment to control the length of the finished part.
