Measuring Stress and Strain of a cantilevered aluminum square tube
grabcad
The cantilevered aluminum square tube is designed to withstand both bending and torsional forces. Electrical resistance strain gages will record biaxial strain measurements accurately. A 2in*2in, 6061-aluminum square tube will be secured at three specific points to three gages attached to the strain gage. As the tube deflects under combined loading, connected wires stretch due to exerted strain on the strain gage. The strain gage operates by detecting resistance changes and displays strain in microstrain units. Data obtained in microstrain form will be used to calculate strain and stresses. Solid Mechanics equations will also compute stress and strain caused by applied forces.
