This is our interpretation of the markings as revealed by Anthony Murphy and Ken Williams at Bru na Boinne.\nIt depicts timber post-holes in a double colonnade externally, accompanied by what are described as a segmented double ditch internally. No excavation has taken place yet to determine what this distinctive ditch arrangement might signify. The assumption is that these marks are ditch holes and not pits for standing stones, since there is no established typology in Ireland of such a structure.\nWe are illustrating numerous individuals within the space enclosed by the monument, to demonstrate scale. The alignment of the portal structure is aligned with Lughnasa, and the shadows in this image are at sunset during that time.
