The McLaren P1, a limited-production plug-in hybrid sports car from Britain, made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. Sales started in the UK in October 2013 and all 375 units were sold by November. Production ceased in December 2015. The US bought 34% of these cars while Europe accounted for 26%. This car is seen as a successor to the F1, employing hybrid power and Formula 1 technology but without its three-seat layout. Like its predecessor, it has a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive setup that uses a carbon fibre monocoque and roof structure safety cage called MonoCage, which is an advancement of the MonoCell first used in the MP4-12C and then in subsequent models. Its main competitors were the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918, all boasting similar specifications and performance; at Silverstone circuit, the three cars finished within half a second of each other with the McLaren P1 finishing first.
