A development of the preceding FH-1 Phantom, the Banshee utilized larger and more powerful engines. Classified as F2H-3 prior to the 1962 unified designation system, F2H-4 models emerged with redesigned tails, stabilizers, and electrical/aerodynamic enhancements; these final versions also featured a Hughes AN/APG-37 radar in the cockpit.
