The F2H Banshee, a twin-engine jet fighter crafted by McDonnell Aircraft from 1948 to 1961, was a development of its predecessor, the FH-1 Phantom. It featured larger, more powerful engines compared to its predecessor. The F2H-2 version was an improved model with removable wingtip fuel tanks and eight underwing weapon storage spaces, as well as Westinghouse turbojet engines. A total of 308 were produced in this second production variant. Notably, the Banshee was armed with four guns positioned at the nose, featured an ejection seat, and incorporated numerous system enhancements compared to the Phantom, including a fully pressurized and air-conditioned cockpit.
