The F2H Banshee was a twin-engine jet fighter used on aircraft carriers, manufactured by McDonnell Aircraft from 1948 until 1961. A development of the earlier FH-1 Phantom, the Banshee boasted larger and more powerful engines. The F2H-2 was an improved version with removable wingtip fuel tanks, eight underwing weapons storage options, and Westinghouse turbojet engines. A total of 308 were built. Four machine guns were mounted low on the nose of the Banshee, which also included features such as an ejection seat and various system enhancements compared to its predecessor, the Phantom. The cockpit was fully pressurized and air-conditioned for optimal pilot comfort.
