It evolved from the earlier FH-1 Phantom, featuring larger and more powerful engines. The F2H-2 was an upgraded version with detachable wingtip fuel tanks and eight underwing weapon storage spaces, powered by Westinghouse turbojet engines. A total of 308 were built as second production versions. The Banshee incorporated four guns mounted low on the nose, along with an ejection seat and numerous system enhancements compared to its predecessor, the Phantom. The cockpit was fully pressurized and air-conditioned for pilot comfort.
