The F2H Banshee, a twin-engine jet fighter manufactured by McDonnell Aircraft from 1948 until 1961, was a development of the earlier FH-1 Phantom. The Banshee featured larger and more powerful engines than its predecessor. The F2H-2 version introduced detachable wingtip fuel tanks and eight underwing weapons stores while utilizing Westinghouse turbojet engines. This model was the second production variant, with 308 units built. Equipped with four nose-mounted machine guns, the Banshee also featured an ejection seat and various system enhancements compared to the Phantom. The cockpit boasted full pressurization and air conditioning, adding to its superiority over the previous model.
