The KC-10 Extender, a military adaptation of the three-engine DC-10 aircraft, is utilized by the US Air Force for transportation and air refueling purposes. It was created as an addition to the KC-135 Stratotanker fleet after learning from previous operations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The KC-10 followed the C-9 as McDonnell Douglas' second chosen transport aircraft by the Air Force, with 60 units manufactured for USAF usage. The Royal Netherlands Air Force also operates two tankers similar to the KC-10, designated as KDC-10, which were converted from DC-10s.
