The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D Hornet is a single-seat, twin-engine, multirole fighter jet aircraft that serves as a lead-in trainer for the U.S. Navy's Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program. The F/A-18D is based on the two-seat F/A-18A/B and features a unique design configuration with a shorter fuselage and a distinctive "Hornet" nose section. This allows it to carry an additional fuel tank under each wing, significantly increasing its range and versatility. The aircraft is powered by two General Electric F404-GE-402 turbofans, which provide a combined thrust of 44,000 pounds. The F/A-18D has been used extensively in various combat roles, including air superiority, strike missions, and reconnaissance operations.
