Working replica of a Mazda 13B-REW Wankel rotary engine, found in the RX7. Modeled from internet sources, mainly pictures and diagrams. Most parts appear accurate but lack dimensionality, with scale matching other models at approximately one-third (35%). The model is designed to showcase moving parts of the rotary engine. All three sections - center iron plate and front rotor housing - are attached with hinges, allowing the block to open like a book. You can see the back rotor spinning and manually turn the front rotor when the block is open. The eccentric shaft is divided into three pieces held together by magnets and index pins, enabling opening and closing while running. The rotors attach to the eccentric shaft with magnets, preventing them from falling out during assembly or disassembly. They also facilitate easy removal for inspection of the eccentric shaft and fixed gears. Inside the back rotor lies an Arduino-powered circuit featuring color-changing LEDs simulating the combustion cycle in each chamber. This component is wirelessly powered by another Arduino circuit housed in the oil pan. The rotor synchronizes the LEDs with a magnet in the housing, speeding up or slowing down the LED changes accordingly.
