Mazda RX-8 Fan Knob Repair
thingiverse
In 2004, my RX-8's climate control fan knob broke at its base, costing around $50 to replace. Due to its small surface area and HDPE material, gluing it back together proved challenging. To solve this issue, I created a friction fit adapter that utilizes the remaining parts of the stem to recreate the necessary mounting hardware. This might work for other years as well. For a visual guide, watch my YouTube video at http://youtu.be/Ira08ukeK8A. Here's how to do it in steps: 1) Clean up the remaining bits of the knob's stem, looking for an X inside the D-shaft as a reference point for trimming. 2) Print out the adapter design using recommended settings: 0.4 wall, 0.4 top/bottom, external supports, and 15% infill on Cura. Consider increasing wall/top/bottom thickness for better print quality. 3) Attach the printed adapter to the shaft of your car's fan control. 4) Line up the knob and push it onto the adapter. 5) Enjoy restored control over your car's climate control fan!
