After my washing machine's door latch handle mechanism broke during a house move, I resorted to using a flat screwdriver as an improvised lever for months. Realizing the need for a replacement part, I designed one that didn't resemble the original but still functioned well. To enhance aesthetics and comfort, I added small holes in the handle. However, the first version snapped off when printed at low infill, while the second had door-jamming issues due to insufficient hook movement. Consequently, I created Version 3, based on accurate measurements of the original part. This new design ensures smooth hinge movement and even load distribution over the plastic. To further strengthen it, I added tiny rivet holes for extrusion printers like Replicator 2 and MakerBot. Now, after several print iterations and testing, Version 3 has proven to be strong and reliable, solving my washing machine door issues. To print this part, use "washing machine handle v3.stl" at 0.2mm layer height with 50% infill in PLA. Other plastics may require higher infill. Optimal for a 0.4mm extruder nozzle and 0.2mm layer height, the rivet holes enhance the part's durability under stress.
