Maytag MAF 1060 Washing Machine Latch Handle

The door latch handle mechanism on my washing machine broke off while we were moving into our new house. For several months, we managed to open the door by using a flat screwdriver as a makeshift lever, but now that I've designed a replacement part, I can finally put an end to this makeshift solution. This new part is not based on the original design at all, yet it fits perfectly and works flawlessly. To give it a more personalized touch, I added small holes to the handle, which not only look great but also feel nicer to the touch than a plain paddle. Update: The first version of my design snapped off when printed with low infill settings, while the second version caused the door to jam shut once - I suspect that the mechanism wasn't moving the hook far enough each way. Undeterred, I scrapped my original design and started from scratch, using caliper measurements of the original part as a reference. The new hinge moves freely and provides plenty of leverage. After tweaking several prints to distribute the load evenly across the plastic, I finally achieved the desired result. To prevent further issues, I added tiny holes that allow the shells to wire through, creating little rivets if printed using an extrusion printer like a RepRap or MakerBot. My third and final version is incredibly strong and works perfectly.
