This limestone boulder was carefully carved into a disk. It served as the tombstone for a circular crypt discovered in 1993. The disk is associated with an earlier temple nicknamed "Motmot" located beneath the Hieroglyphic Stairway. Cemented into the stucco floor, it has been referred to as the cornerstone of the ancient city of Copan. It features the earliest hieroglyphic inscription known from the site, commemorating the significant 9.0.0.0.0 (December 8th AD 435) period ending and the final closure of the tomb beneath. Two seated rulers occupy opposite halves of the four-lobed outline, which symbolizes the open door to the underworld. The ruler on the left is identified by the name glyph and headdress as the first ruler in the dynasty, K'inich Yax K'uk' Mo'. The ruler on the right is the first ruler's child, the second in the dynastic succession. This disk is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for public access. Scan the World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
