3-part mold for the Maxiwatt Hotend Heater - A Step-by-Step Guide to Filling and Casting with Ease There are numerous guides available online that explain how to fill and cast with molds, but I'll walk you through my own experience of creating a 3-part mold for the Maxiwatt Hotend Heater. I began by applying silicone spray lubricant into the mold, allowing it to dry for a short period. Next, I directly poured silicone into the two halves of the mold, making sure to fill most of the circular area up to at least half full. I then inserted the center plug and compressed the mold together tightly. Excess silicone began to seep out through the gaps between the mold halves and the opening for the wiring. If you find that little silicone is escaping, it may be a sign that you have too little in the mold. At this point, depending on the type of silicone you're using, you can still open the mold and add more. I used Permatex Ultra Copper silicone, which is one of the highest temperature-rated silicones I could easily find in the United States (700°F/370°C). After following the instructions for full cure time, I gently separated the two halves of the mold, taking care not to tear the silicone. If needed, there's a hole through the plug that allows for a tool to help remove the plug from the mold cavity. Once the mold was clean and free of excess flashing, I used a good set of flush cutters or a hobby knife to trim any excess material around the wire holes. The final step was to cut the end of the wires to allow them to pass through. To install the sock, start by feeding the wires through the center/top opening and out the wire hole. Next, work the sock around the heater until it sits snugly in place. When done correctly, the sock should fit securely over the heater.
