LOGGERHEAD: https://secure.marinelife.org/np/clients/marinelife/donation.jsp?campaign=41 Recently, the makerspace I work at (The Forge at Rensselaer) obtained a Makrforged Onyx Pro. If you're unfamiliar with what that means, it's a printer that prints in chopped carbon with an option to lay in either concentric or isotropic strands of fiberglass. It's incredibly cool and extremely strong; check it out (https://markforged.com/product/onyx-pro/). As soon as I heard we'd be getting one, I set off to design something unlike anything I've ever made before. It was going to have curves. It was going to be sleek. It was going to be fast. Hell, it might even be aerodynamic, imagine that! After a few failed attempts and several weeks of pondering and slowly working away at it, I ended up with the MAKO. Since I severely overengineered it, it's easier if I just list some of the highlights: - Awesome cable management (super clean builds) - Air slits in the canopy (so you don't burn up) - Fillets everywhere (to spread out the stress of an impact) - Accepts up to 3" prop (so yes, 66mm will fit) - Motor protection (because why not) - Can be printed in materials that don't cost an arm and a leg (ABS, PETG, Nylon, etc.) Perhaps you're wondering about the name? That's because the shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchu) is the fastest shark on record, and I happened to have "Fast as a Shark" (Accept) on when I finally realized how I could make something this complex (compared to my usual work). It's also because the ocean is really awesome and super important, and because of that, you should donate to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Jupiter, FL! My sister works there and it's an amazing place that does amazing work for our oceans and everything living in them. Since you just saved money on a frame, might as well toss a few bucks to something that matters... Don't wanna go to the site? No worries, if you tip me I'll send all the tips I get on my Thingiverse over to them! Oh, and I almost forgot! I exercised extreme self-restraint and built this slower than anything I can remember so that I could properly document the process and make a damn fine manual. This isn't nearly my toughest build ever, but it's up there since it's so compact, so I recommend taking a gander at the guide before you embark on this epic journey. I also added a BMP (it's the green image) to use as a custom Betaflight logo, if you're into that. The font is "Oblivious" in case you're curious. I suppose that about wraps it up. Questions, comments, suggestions, professions of love, whatever; leave it down below. ~ Maximus ~
