Maximinus Thrax bridgelayer, based on the versatile Chimera hull, is a crucial support vehicle designed to lay combat bridges in the most challenging environments. The bridge itself is meant to be constructed from sturdy cardboard or plastic, providing a reliable and durable platform for armored units to cross. Named after an illustrious Emperor of Old Terra, the M-Thrax bridgelayer was engineered to deploy a combat bridge while under intense enemy fire, allowing armored units to advance swiftly and safely. The procedure involves advancing the vehicle forward to the intended crossing point, then performing a rapid 180-degree turn. Alternatively, the vehicle can drive backwards to the designated spot, as both sensors and commander viewports are positioned to face rearward. To enhance maneuverability, the wheel base was marginally shortened, allowing for more agile movement in tight spaces. Upon reaching the intended crossing point, the M-Thrax operator lays down one side of the bridge on the "friendly" side, then activates the solid fuel rocket boosters to propel the other half of the bridge to the "enemy" side. As the rockets fire, they simultaneously open and deploy the bridge to a flat position. The high-grade targeter and floodlight ensure pinpoint accuracy in bridge deployment, even in nighttime operations. A well-trained crew can perform a combat bridge deployment in as little as 10 seconds. The piston arm is used to prepare the bridge for deployment and retrieve it under non-combat conditions.
