Maximilian's Carriage in Chapultepec Castle
sketchfab
Maximilian I, born on July 6, 1832, and passing away on June 19, 1867, ruled the Second Mexican Empire as its sole monarch. He was a younger brother to the Austrian emperor Francis Joseph I, who had already established a legacy of his own. Maximilian's distinguished career in modernizing the Austrian Navy made him an attractive candidate for Napoleon III of France. The French leader offered Maximilian the opportunity to rule Mexico, but only if he could win the support of the people through a national plebiscite.
