Max's Strider 12 Pro - Chain Stay Covers
thingiverse
Hello, and thanks for checking out my creation! I bought a Strider Balance bike (Strider 12 Pro) for my little girl after her first ride. She loved the new bike but couldn't continue riding because her legs were so sore. I wondered why and took a look to see that her legs had been rubbed raw by poorly positioned skateboard tape on top of the chain stays. On top of that, there's nothing to protect the steel from scratches when dropped, and numerous falls would be taken by the chain stays, which would quickly rust... Annoyed by this, I contacted Strider asking if it was bad engineering or a production mistake. The reply I got was snappy at best, first saying that I had set the seat high wrong and that my little girl just had poor positioning. When I asked if they offered covers for this, I was told that they'd rather not offer cosmetic upgrades like that to keep costs low... yet on their website you can purchase a silly cape for kids to wear... *Shake head*. So after a bit of measuring and tinkering in Fusion 360, I came up with these covers. I tried printing them in PLA and Flex (too flexible flex didn't work out! but the stiffer version was fine). I ended up using the PLA after giving it a couple of coats of spray paint. They work great! Not only do they protect my girl from scratching her little legs, but they'll also protect the paint from all those falls :) I printed these with no supports whatsoever, just 0.2 layer height and go! :D Share your prints!
