Matija Gubec, known by his real name Ambroz Gubec or Gobec, led the Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt of 1573 as a prominent revolutionary figure. As part of a three-person governing council for the rebels, he played a key role in shaping their resistance. After the revolt's defeat, Gubec was captured and taken to Zagreb, where he faced brutal treatment on February 15. He was forced to wear a scorching iron crown, cruelly dragged through the city streets, pinched with red-hot tongs, and eventually beheaded.
