Mathematical maths shape fractal geode star dodecahedron
thingiverse
I designed a manga star symbol featuring higher symmetry, adapted from "Moreton Bradley" in STL format for 3D printing with ABS plastic. Due to the underside of the stars being difficult to render straight, I divided it into two halves to stick together seamlessly on both sides. To join the hemispheres perfectly, I sanded the tips almost imperceptibly using a flat surface and a roll of sandpaper. Next, I applied thin ABS glue to all the star tips, then carefully affixed them to their corresponding counterparts in under 20 seconds. It's crucial to use ABS when assembling the model, especially considering the underside slopes at 20 degrees, which can lead to warping and make the undersides rough. Therefore, sticking the tops together ensures a visually appealing model with smooth insides. Be cautious when printing the first layer of this design, as I experienced issues at 0.1mm and a 7cm diameter due to a slicer mistake. However, printing the 11cm version resulted in flawless success. A video demonstration is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjyei0JHdq0&feature=youtu.be. Key features of this design include platonic symmetry, mathematical concepts, and intricate snowflake patterns.
