Math Puzzle: Cube Hexagonal Dissection
thingiverse
There are countless ways to dissect a cube. The hexagonal dissection is particularly captivating. One cuts a cube into two identical components using a plane that intersects the midpoints of six edges surrounding the cube. With these two pieces, one can craft another cube; with numerous pieces, one can build various shapes. This is an excellent way for children to hone their (or maintain their innate) spatial reasoning! Print Settings Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 0% to 20% Notes: If you print at 0% infill, you can drop a small magnet when the build is roughly half complete! Please increase shell thickness if it feels flimsy. If you use multiple colors and print with the hexagon facing the plate, you can illustrate the transformation of shapes - from a hexagon to a triangle. Post-Printing Have fun exploring the slicing process and feel free to ask questions! How I Designed This This was built in 123D Design using midpoints and lofting techniques.
