Revamped features are subtly noticeable, as every piece has been revised for smoother assembly with better fit. This playful-looking Math manipulative works well with overhead projection systems and incorporates mechanical fun along with simple ratio exercises. The eight-toothed "Idler" gear is included to enable reverse rotation without affecting ratios, while each interchangeable gear features built-in graphics for tooth count and rotation position indicators. Gear ratio formulas can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear_ratio. Rubber bands provide tension to maintain wheel engagement regardless of combination. The "T" on the gears signifies 'teeth'. Designed for MakerBot Replicator 2 machines, this manipulative fits within a 105 mm x 105 mm build area and requires no support. Assembly is straightforward with guidance from provided photos. Idler gear might pose a challenge, but simply requires a bit of loosening and spinning. The axle post snaps into the base unit's center hole for easy addition or removal. After printing, clean out the center holes in gears to ease on/off placement on pins. Enjoy learning through play!
