This presentation will explore the relationship between materials and zones in public areas. Particularly how different materials create invisible barriers between zones with a distinct lack of physical barriers. To analyse the transitions between these zones we looked at how the spaces were used and the forces that were stopping users from crossing these invisible barriers where material transitions were located. While each zone has a clear process and flow, crossing these material transitins often presented a different level of danger for the flaneur. This principle acts as the framework for creating a model.
