The Provincial Museum Campano (also known as the Museum of Campania) is a historical museum of ancient Campania (later Terra di Lavoro and now included in the Province of Caserta), and one of the most important of the Campania and Italy. It holds the most important collection of world Matres Matutae, also known as the Mothers of Capua, from the ancient Capua, the present territory of the City of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and the largest lapidarium (collection of inscriptions, steles and tombstones of stone age substantially Roman) in southern Italy. Mater Matuta, in Roman mythology was the goddess of the Morning or Dawn and then patron of the birth of men and things. He was later associated with the Greek goddess Ino or, in fact, Aurora.
