Matchbox Superfast 5sp Transitional (1969)

This set of wheels is designed to match the original Superfast wheels that came on Matchbox cars from 1969 to 1971. "Superfast" was Matchbox's answer to Hot Wheel's low-friction "redlines" introduced in 1968. Until then, Matchbox used strong-thick axles, which produced a lot of friction and slowed the cars down. "Redlines added a new value in toy cars, using very thin axles and low friction materials like Delrin for the bushings that made Hot Wheels roll faster and further. During the first year of the Superfast era (1969) Matchbox made transitional low-friction wheels, made to fit in the already existing castings of the brand. By 1970, some of the cars plus new castings came with a new, wider wheel. The company was saved, but the toy-cars business, once ruled by Lesney, was changed forever. Ø Wheels: 11,5mm (outer rim) Overall Width: 4,1mm There are 2 versions of this set, in STL format: Version "A" has a 0,72mm hole, better suited to the original 0,65mm Matchbox Superfast axles. Version "B" has a 0,85mm hole, better suited to modern Hot Wheels axles.
