Matchbox Carousel replacement trim for top sections
thingiverse
This is a reengineered piece of gilding trim for the 1989 Matchbox Carousel toy. I have included my laser scan of the original trim, which can still be printed and either gold leafed or painted (I recommend an oil based gold colloidal paint) - but that's just if you're a purist. For a better fit and more sensible, long lasting part, I eliminated the ridiculous teeth - there were FIVE teeth on this design! and made a long, comfortably fitted slot that goes straight down onto the top of the carousel with no trouble and won't break unless you step on it or hit it with a hammer. This part can be printed in resin or PLA, but it's not going to be taking any pressure, so I recommend resin to capture the fine detail and get a good surface quality. In the photos, you can see the unpainted simplified version in my hand, while the full carousel shot is the restoration project that I did this for. All the trim on that carousel is brand new, 3D printed replacements for the poorly designed original pieces.
