Mastodon skull without tusks

The Cohoes Mastodon's skull was digitally preserved through a 3D scanning process on May 30 and 31, 2018 at the New York State Museum using a Go!Scan 50 device. However, certain interior areas of the maxilla, mandible, and rear portion of the skull remained unscanned due to structural support for the skeletal display. The replica tusks, created to safeguard the fragile originals, were not included in the scan. Future plans call for returning to the New York State Museum to collect additional 3D data from the skull. This project is under the care of the New York State Museum, where it can be viewed by the Specimen Number VP101.
