Barnacules printed a Master Ball, go check out his video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SkTL3rZV00. This is it - the Master Ball, the ultimate catch, make it yours now! (Only one per player). WARNING! This project is still in progress, but I'm excited to share it with you. Best of luck to those who want to obtain the Master Ball. UPDATE: September 27th, 2016 I've added a 3mm Hinge Pin file for those who prefer a stronger hinge and have a 1.75mm filament printer. You can also use this file if you'd rather print a pin to fit perfectly than use filament. DESCRIPTION The Master Ball is a fully functional replica of the real thing, made with only 3D printed parts and super glue. It has a working hinge and button that presses in and unlocks a catch, using the flex in the plastic as a spring. The hinge opens to 90 degrees and stops just like the real thing, without sticking out the back. The button also hides its own mechanism from view, adding to the authenticity of the design. Parts have notches and grooves for perfect alignment while gluing, making it easy to create a flawless model. I believe this is the most accurate and easy-to-print Master Ball you can make with a 3D printer, so print your own and start catching Pokémon! Even the stand looks like a PokeBall from above. PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS Don't use a raft - parts don't warp easily and cleanup is harder. I use a brim to aid adhesion instead. Print all parts with support touching the build plate. Remove support, but the PokeBall design hides supported surfaces, so a smooth finish isn't essential for a great look. Print lids with the dome side up like an igloo. Print inner shells the other way up like a bowl. Print the button with the flat surface on the build plate. Use 3mm or 1.75mm filament as a hinge pin and shape it to fit smoothly, just like in the pictures. Do a dry fit of all parts before gluing. Super glue lids to their respective inner shells. Place the button inside the outer button smaller with the two bumps facing down and super glue the outer button smaller to the inner shell top. Insert the hinge pin attaching the two halves together and glue it in place, taking care not to fix the hinge in a single position. You'll need: 1x Lid Base 1x M letter 1x Pink Bump 1 1x Pink Bump 2 1x White Lid 1x Inner Shell Top (choose filament size and with or without support) 1x Inner Shell Bottom (choose filament size and with or without support) 1x Button 1x Outer Button Smaller 1x Stand (optional) Super Glue If you have problems with supports or printing, let me know and I'll do my best to help. The tolerances are tight as this design works on my printer - if you encounter issues, please let me know. Happy Printing and Go Catch Them All!
