Massive star knob for M10 nut
thingiverse
The available star knobs are always too small and unwieldy for me, making them difficult to grasp and maneuver. This one measures a substantial 60 mm in diameter and 40 mm in height, allowing it to fit comfortably in one hand while providing ample leverage. The upper surface is carefully rounded to provide an even more secure grip. Most other star knobs have only a few wings, necessitating frequent adjustments of the hand or awkward bending to achieve a firm hold. In contrast, this knob boasts eight sturdy wings that ensure a reliable grasp, even with minimal turning motions. Furthermore, the wings themselves are deliberately designed with sharp edges to provide an unyielding grip, even in damp conditions. The blind hole measures 36.5 mm in depth and has a diameter of 10.5 mm. The hexagonal recess is precision-crafted to accommodate a M10 nut according to DIN 934 standards, leaving a deliberate 200 µm play to ensure a snug fit. Above the nut lies a recess specifically designed for a washer (DIN 125). I opted for a 50% filling and six walls when printing this star knob to provide the necessary support for the nut.
