Mason Jar Sprouting Lid - 2 piece

A two-piece lid for wide mouth mason jars is perfect for sprouting seeds. I remixed "Canning Jar Sprouting Lid" by @AlexEnglish to create this design. If you're new to sprouting, there are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube that can walk you through the process. They're extremely easy and fast to grow yourself. I find that these lids plus jars and seed packs make inexpensive and great gifts for anyone who loves sprouts. I recommend printing both pieces in PETG for durability. The threaded ring / band and mesh strainer insert are separate, which makes cleaning a breeze. Using a plastic ring instead of the original metal one prevents rusting - I know this from experience! If the mesh strainer gets too dirty to clean safely, you can quickly print a new one using just a meter of filament. I tweaked the design to use ISO-standard metric threads, courtesy of Dan Kirshner's library. The square threads on the original model were tricky to print cleanly, so I opted for something easier. I also widened the opening to prevent water from getting trapped around the edges. The threaded ring / band can be used for other purposes, but keep in mind that its dimensions differ from stock metal screw bands for mason jars. For the mesh insert, the model is a simple 1mm height cylinder. You'll need to adjust your slicer settings to create the mesh - this idea originated from "Germinator Cover for Mason Jar" by @StephaneRousseau. To get the pictured mesh strainer insert, I used these Cura settings: - Layer Height: 0.2mm - Wall Thickness: 2.4mm - Top/Bottom Thickness: 0mm - Infill Density: 25% - Infill Pattern: Gyroid - Connect Infill Lines - Flow: 120% Other infill types should work, but you may need to increase the density to ensure that seeds can't fall through and water drains properly. The gyroid infill has an elongated hole shape that balances flow and containment perfectly - it also prints quickly and uses less plastic than other infill types!
