Mason Jar Light Fixture
thingiverse
Had the idea to repurpose a mason jar as a unique shade on pendant lights hanging over my kitchen bar. Discovered a large-mouthed mason jar that fit snugly over the bulb and thought it would work beautifully and look amazing too. Recalled making the hummingbird feeder (www.thingiverse.com/thing:77439) last year, and considered reusing the lid, so I went for it! Started by scaling down the lid to fit a large-mouth jar and chopped off its center section to make it thinner. Then, I used the Nut-Job customizer (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:193647) to design a bolt that would thread onto my light fixture's ceramic piece. The bolt ended up being 42mm with a thread step of 3.5, matching my fixture's threads perfectly. Printed two bolts in brown ABS using my FlashForge Creator Pro, and each took about 40-45 minutes to complete. Note: Those bulbs you see are LEDs, which don't generate much heat - I wouldn't recommend using incandescent bulbs without checking if they won't melt or burn the material used!
