Mason Jar Lantern for Patio Table Umbrella Pole
thingiverse
One evening, as my state of mind began to dwindle, like embers dying out in the fire, I headed into the house. In my haste, I had left the umbrella open on the patio table, a careless mistake that would soon prove costly. Unbeknownst to me, the next morning was going to be windy, and when I woke up, I saw that the top half of my umbrella was lying in the neighbor's yard, destroyed beyond repair. I stood there, staring at the half-umbrella pole sticking out from the middle of my table, feeling frustrated. Like any enthusiastic 3D hobbyist with a penchant for designing and making things, I couldn't resist the opportunity to come up with a creative solution. I decided to make a mount that would fit snugly over the lower umbrella pole's 32mm OD, tapering up to a standard inverted Mason jar lid. The idea was to place a battery-powered tea light or a solar garden/fairy light inside and seal it from the elements by screwing an appropriate-sized Mason jar onto the base. I opted to make my own solar light using parts scavenged from two old garden solar lights that no longer worked, but if you're not handy with a soldering iron, a simple battery-powered candle would work just as well. This DIY project could also be used as a mini greenhouse on a pole for those who prefer plants over lights. Either way, I hope you enjoy and have fun making your own umbrella light!
