Mason Jar Lantern for Patio Table Umbrella Pole

Mason Jar Lantern for Patio Table Umbrella Pole

One night as the fire and my state of mind dwindled, I made my way into the house for the evening. In my haste I had accidentally left the umbrella open over the patio table. Unbeknownst to myself we were in for a windy AM and I woke to the top half of my umbrella in the neighbors yard...destroyed. I was left staring at half an umbrella pole poking through the middle of my table. I was going to buy a new umbrella but I lacked the enthusiasm to spend another $100+ for a replacement. Like any good 3D hobbyist with an excuse to design and make something functional, I got to thinking and tinkering. I came up with a mount that fits over the 32mm OD of the lower umbrella pole which then tapers up to a standard inverted Mason jar lid. The idea being that a battery powered tea light or a solar garden/fairy light could be placed inside and sealed from the elements via an appropriate sized Mason jar screwed into the base. I opted for making my own solar light from parts scavenged from two old no longer functional garden solar lights, although if you're not so inclined to get out the soldering iron, a simple battery powered candle works great. Could also be used as a mini greenhouse on a pole I suppose if you prefer plants over lights. Either way, enjoy and have fun!
