Masks played a vital role in rituals that marked pivotal moments of transformation, such as the shift from drought to abundance. Xipe Totec, or 'the flayed one', alludes to the ancient practice of donning the flayed skin of sacrificial victims during spring planting festivals to ensure the cycle of life renewal. The mask made from dead skin was likened to withered vegetation hiding new life beneath its surface. This object is part of "Scan The World".
