Black Sunday, also known as The Mask of Satan and Revenge of the Vampire, is a 1960 Italian gothic horror film directed by Mario Bava from a screenplay written by Ennio de Concini, Mario Serandrei, and Marcello Coscia. Barbara Steele, John Richardson, Arturo Dominici, and Ivo Garrani star in this classic movie. The film marked Bava's directorial debut, although he had worked on several previous feature films without receiving credit. Loosely based on Nikolai Gogol's short story "Viy," the story revolves around a vampire-witch who is put to death by her brother but returns 200 years later seeking revenge on her descendants. A replica of the mask was made available in two versions: one full scale and small, the other multi-part and full size that can be worn as a costume.
