These adjustable straps are designed to hook onto the elastic of a surgical-style mask instead of wrapping around the ears. Prolonged use of the straps behind the ears can cause skin irritation and discomfort. A huge thank you goes out to Quinn Callander, an impressive 12-year-old Scout from Maple Ridge, BC who sparked a massive social media buzz with his Facebook post! His innovative design has been uploaded to Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4202906) for broader dissemination. Suraky, another talented creator, took Quinn's original strap design and remixed it with a clever cutout feature to minimize plastic usage and speed up print times (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4249113). Kudos to Suraky! This adaptable mask strap has been rigorously reviewed and approved for use in clinical settings by the NIH (US National Institute of Health)! You can find more information here: https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013410. Building upon Suraky's remix, I added some text and rounded out certain corners to reduce stress points. Moreover, I incorporated holes into the protruding catches, which resolved issues with infill blobs and stringing. Not long after starting this revised version, I discovered another remix of Quinn's original strap design, but this one omitted the rectangular hole in the strap and instead used through-hole text for the phrase "STAY SAFE," just like my own remix. Before wearing masks for extended periods, I didn't realize how frustrating they could be. The adjustable straps make a big difference.
